Your dad reminds me of me a bit... which is scary, cause I found myself suddenly wondering how my future kid(s) would look at me one day! :-/
As for Cyan??? Wow, you had some LAME friends! I would love that name from day 1! My name's "Jon" and I've ALWAYS hated it. You say Jon on the street and get 30 people to turn around. It sucks. At least Cyan was always original. And I can't really fall back on my Spanish middle name, since I'm not exactly sure how it translates into English...
If deciding which story is true for your name origin... let me add one comment: Why in the heck would anyone name their kid after an almost lethal, traumatic experience like having an umbilical cord around the throat??? Sounds kind of scary and wrong... I think your Dad's story is better.
Anyway, glad the "birthing" thing worked out and you didn't get pwned by the umbilical! :-P Heh!

hi just wanted to tell you that your name is the prettiest name in the world. on the 21st of october 2003 I gave birth to my beautiful, laughing, happy, smiling angel who I proudly named Cyan Doyle. She is sooooo proud of her name tells people how to spell it and pronounce it and loves the fact not many people share her name. happy new year and glad you are proud of your name. I love it. I picked it out of the astrological book of baby names. x bye

Oh, that is so exciting! Thank you for sharing this - really, it warmed my heart. It is a very special name and it will be a wonderful gift in her life.
When she's old enough to write, talk and be on the internet - put her in touch with me. I'd love to hear about her experiences in the world.

perhaps i should start using my real name at some point. ;) at least yours is a beautiful color and isn't just a misspelled version of a common name like mine.

We had decided to name our little girl who's arriving in July Cyan. In searching for info on the name I ran across your site. Thanks for all the great experience about the name. I actually visioned two robin eggs in a nest and was looking for a connection when cyan showed up as the Robin egg color. We think we'll keep that name if you don't mind having another Cyan running around. We haven't dreamed up a middle name yet but we will look to the stars maybe for an answer thanks to your dad. Enjoy life.

My name is also Cyan. Weird, I’ve honestly never met anyone else with that name. My dad was a photographer and named my after the color too.

My daughters name is Cyan as well. My husband and I both work in the television industry and cyan is a colour in the test pattern. It just fit, because that is how we met.
